Thuringowa State High School opened in 1987, and in 2017 will celebrate 30 years of academic excellence, sporting and cultural achievement and a vibrant community spirit. Our school prides itself on the benefits that come with students attending a smaller school.

Thuringowa State High School has a caring and supportive community that has a wide network of support including our guidance officer, youth support worker, chaplain, Aboriginal & Islander education unit and school nurse. We have excellent facilities including computer rooms, laptops, ipads, commercial standard kitchens, science laboratories, manual arts with the latest trades facilities, custom built theatre, gymnasium, basketball and tennis courts and a well stocked library. Positive behaviour support network that is firm, fair and aimed at re-engaging students in meaningful educational processes.
In 2016, a unique and innovative collaboration between James Cook University and Thuringowa State High School commenced. Global Tropic Future (GTF) will result in enriched learning outcomes, aspirations and pathways for our students. Our Global Tropics Future Young Scholars have the opportunities to engage in innovative experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
